Introduction

Jiri to Everest Base Camp trekking where adventure leads you on an old and original route to high Khumbu valley reaching at world highest Mt. Everest Base Camp with climb of Kalapathar Hill top at above 5,545 m on the tallest side of the adventure.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp trekking offers breathtaking scenery of unique blend of landscapes with rolling green hills and valley dotted with farm villages in the backdrop of might giant peaks of Everest and other range of mountains.

The walk from Jiri to Everest Base Camp is almost forgotten where you can revive it back taking part in the marvelous journey where adventure leads you on the both scenic and cultural sides of Everest with Solu in the South and high Khumbu towards North.

An amazing trek the leads you from Jiri after an exciting overland journey from Kathmandu, where Jiri town known as Switzerland of Nepal due to its beautiful location of green hills, valley and snow capped peaks.

 Walk follows through hills and valley visiting rural farm villages with grand views of mountains exploring local mix culture of Solu inhabitants and crossing few high passes of above 3,000 meter and walking into serene woodland filled with tall rhododendron and pine tree lines.

After a marvelous time around Solu south of Everest where climb leads high above Dudh-Kosi River to reach scenic Khumbu valley populated by highlanders the Sherpa of Everest, where route leads through many nice traditional villages to reach at famous Namche Bazaar.

At Namche Bazaar with time to acclimatize and explore the town / village witness fascinating Sherpa culture of Buddhism custom, and then on high side to reach at scenic Thyangboche and its impressive colorful monastery encircled by green forest and mountains with view of Everest and magnificent peak Amadablam.

Adventure continues on leaving the green tree lines then reaching at windswept arid and barren country filled with moraine, ice and glaciers at Everest Base Camp and close to massive tumbling Khumbu Ice-Fall and glaciers.

Enjoying fabulous moments where walk leads to a steep climb on top scenic Kalapathar hill the highest spot of the adventure at 5,545 m high with tremendous panorama of peaks within close to Mt. Everest and Mt. Pumori.

Finally our marvelous journey completes walking downhill back into serene woodland to reach at Lukla town, where short scenic flight brings you back at Kathmandu after a great wonderful adventure and experience on Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trekking.

Best Seasons

March to May with Mid September to December months best months for treks when most of the days crystal clear for views, but cold in the morning and night time as well in shades with chances of snow sometimes during autumn and winter seasons.

Where March to May will be lively when wild flowers are in full bloom with sunny days with cloudy late afternoon sometimes.

October to December autumn and winter months clear fine day for views and walks, however, will be much cold in the morning and night time as well in shade, not including wind chill factor, chances of snow on route walks above 3,000 m higher.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Life and Journey staff / guide greets you with warm welcome and then transfer into heart of Kathmandu city to your respective hotels.

Day 2In Kathmandu options for sightseeing tour and trek preparation

Free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities as well for options for sightseeing tour around the city places of Interest, as Kathmandu and its close other cities steeped with World Heritage Sites, rest of the afternoon preparation for Jiri to Everest Base Camp trekking next early morning drives.

Day 3Drive to Jiri 1,900 m - 06 hrs journey

An interesting drive towards east of Kathmandu and then leaving the main highway behind on winding uphill road to Charikot, a nice town of Dolkha area with views of Gaurishankar and Melung-Tse and as far towards Langtang and Everest towards east.

From here downhill to Tama Kosi River with uphill and down to Jiri, a scenic hill town, regarded as Switzerland of Nepal, due to it beautiful location of hills and valley cooler climate and views of snow-clad peaks.

Day 4Trek to Shivalaya 1,770 m -05 hrs

After first overnight at Jiri, walk begins past town area and market place and then avoiding the main motorable road, climb a hill to reach a ridge with nice scenery of surrounding landscapes and mountains, from the ridge top downhill to Shivalaya village for overnight stop, a nice moderate size farm village with number of lodges.

Day 5Trek to Bhandar (Chyangma) 2,195 m - 05 hrs

From Shivalaya morning a steep climb to ridge top with terrace fields and then walk into cool forest of rhododendron-oaks-pines trees to reach at Deurali with possible lunch stop.
After refreshing breaks long descend for few hours to reach at Bhandar village for overnight stop, after walking past large Stupa and villages, Bhandar also called Chyangma village, area around of mix tribe of people with Tamang, Newar, but predominantly Sherpa people.

Day 6Trek to Sete 2,575 m - 06 hrs

Morning starts with downhill into farm villages to reach Kenja village a nice village, located in river valley beneath high Lamjura-la and Pike Hills facing views of Numbur peaks.
After Kenja, a steep uphill climb to reach overnight stop at Sete village from here onward into cooler temperature.

Day 7 Trek to Junbesi 2,675m crossing Lamjura-la 3,530m - 06 hrs

Start morning walk heading up at Lamjura-la pass ah steep climb into forest of rhododendron, pines and oaks trees past small farm lands and hamlets, after few hours of climb reaching on top of Lamjura pass marked by big stupa with few lodges, from the top descend through forest all the way to Sherpa village at Toctoc.
After a short stop continue walk on winding path to Junbesi, and then downhill to Junbesi, a lovely large Sherpa village with an interesting monastery and a school funded by Hillary Trust.

Day 8Trek to Nunthala (Manidingma) 2,190 m - 06 hrs

After a pleasant stop at Junbesi, morning walk on winding path with glimpse of Mt. Everest and other snowcapped peaks, then down to river cross over bridge, a short climb to Ringmo village for lunch, afternoon climb into forested areas to reach at Trakshindu pass 3,070m high, marked with mani and chhorten with views of Numbur, Kusum Kangguru, Thamersarkhu and Kantega peaks.
From here downhill to Nunthala past Takshindo village with an old monastery, continue descend to reach Nuntahla also called Manidingma, a village of Rai and Sherpa people.

Day 9Trek to Bupsa Hill 2,250 m - 06 hrs

Air gets cooler as route leads close to Khumbu area, on leaving Solu region, morning begins with downhill into forest to reach a bridge over Dudh Kosi River, after crossing the raging Dudh Kosi River on winding uphill to Jubing village.
After Jubing an hour climb to Kharikhola a large village of Sherpa and Magar tribes, after a short break head uphill for an hour to Bupsa hill top with small village perched on a ridge with super views of rolling hills and valleys.

Day 10Trek to Surkhe 2,295 m - 06 hrs

From Bupsa a slow and steady walk to reach high Khumbu where temperature gets cooler as the walk proceeds into mixed alpine forest.
Walk leads over Kharte Dande a pass at 3,880m high, high above Dudh Kosi River and then reaching at Puiyan (Paya) village in the midst of forest.
From Puiyan having lunch on winding trail with views of Lukla town and the airstrip, descend to Surkhe village for overnight stop around Khumbu area.

Day 11Trek to Phakding 2,640m - 04 hrs

Morning on pleasant undulating trail close to Lukla reaching at Choplung village where trail from Lukla and Jiri meets, from here to Phakding for overnight stop, as our walk leads past villages and farm lands with grand views of hills and valleys then finally reaching at Phakding village by the Dudh Kosi (river) for overnight stop.

Day 12Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 05 hrs

After Phakding walk leads to famous Namche Bazaar a major town of Khumbu region, walking on gradual winding path crossing rivers few times and into pine and rhododendron forest.

On reaching at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park near Monjo, afternoon walk continues on river banks, and then with a long climb to end the day trek at Namche Bazaar and for overnight stops.

Day 13Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion

At Namche a necessary acclimatization and rest day, before heading higher onward to Everest base camp. Namche a large village or a town with many shops, stores, banks and ATM with Cyber Café, optional hike to park museum with excellent information of the area includes grand views of Mt. Everest and Amadablam peak.

For energetic people take a hike to Everest View hotel, Khumjung and Khunde village located on a glacial valley beneath holy Khumbi-la peak (patron God of Khumbu area)

Day 14Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m - 05 hrs

From Namche a moderate walk on winding scenic trail with views of Everest, Kwangde, Tharmasarku, Amadablam, after crossing Imjatse River to a small place Phunge-Tengawith few shops and lodges a popular lunch spot.

After lunch few hours climb into lovely forested and then reaching our overnight stop at Thyangboche monastery, a beautiful spot set on a plateau surrounded by high peaks with view of Everest.

At Thyangboche visit the monastery where you can observe monks and priest on prayer and religious activities.

Day 15Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m – 05 hrs

Morning catch wonderful views of Everest with adjoining peaks Amadablam, starting with downhill walk to a steel bridge over Imjatse River where we leave behind lush green vegetation for arid and barren landscapes, as the walk leads closer towards mountainous area, after few hours of good walk and climb reaching at Pangboche village of 3,900 meters high, this is the last permanent village towards Everest base camp, while other night stops are temporary settlement to cater the needs of the trekkers.

From here a short climb leads to Somara for lunch and then continue walk with last climb to Dingboche village for overnight stop.

Dingboche located on Imjatse valley with grand views of Lhotse-Nuptse including North Face of Amadablam and Island Peak.

Day 16Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m - 05 hrs

Adventure leads to final destinations and highlight at Everest Base Camp, morning walk begins with gentle up for few hours and then short climb to Gorakshep, after walking on glacier and moraine, on reaching Gorakshep located at the bottom of Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar view top hill.
After a short rest continue walk to Everest Base Camp leading above Khumbu glacier, and then reaching our target at base camp catching fantastic close views of stunning Nuptse, Lho-la with Changtse which across the border in Tibet, separated by icy ridges and wall of Lho-La with tip of Everest and tumbling massive Khumbu Ice Fall.
After a breathtaking experience head back to Gorakshep for last overnight stop within high Everest area.

Day 17Trek to and Everest Base Camp 5,364 m and back at Gorakshep -06 hrs

Adventure leads to final destinations and highlight at Everest Base Camp, morning walk begins with gentle up for few hours and then short climb to Gorakshep, after walking on glacier and moraine, on reaching Gorakshep located at the bottom of Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar view top hill.
After a short rest continue walk to Everest Base Camp leading above Khumbu glacier, and then reaching our target at base camp catching fantastic close views of stunning Nuptse, Lho-la with Changtse which across the border in Tibet, separated by icy ridges and wall of Lho-La with tip of Everest and tumbling massive Khumbu Ice Fall.
After a breathtaking experience head back to Gorakshep for last overnight stop within high Everest area.

Day 18Hike to Kalapathar 5, 545 m trek to Pangboche 3,900 m - 06 hrs

Early morning climb to Kalapathar at 5,545 m, highest point of the adventure with awesome views of snowcapped peaks, includes Mt. Everest and Pumori at close distance.

After great scenic moment descend to Gorakshep and continue trek to Thugla, here onwards on new route to Pheriche valley, can get windy in afternoon time after a nice pleasant walk reaching at Pheriche for lunch stop.
From Pheriche with grand views of Amadablam peak, walk leads on a gradual winding uphill and downhill to Pangboche village for overnight stop.

Day 19Trek back to Namche Bazaar-06 hrs

From Pangboche downhill and back into tree lines after crossing a bridge an hour or more climb brings you at Thyangboche Monastery within woodland with fantastic views of Amadablam-Mt. Everest and adjoining peaks.

After time at Thyangboche on downhill for an hour to reach a bridge over Imjastse River, from here a climb for an hour to Sanasa, and then on the winding nice trail to Namche Bazaa for overnight stop.

Day 20Trek to Lukla - 04 hrs

Morning another long day walk to Lukla but enjoyable on downhill to reach Dudh Kosi river valley and then at Monjo past Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit point.
Our last day trek of the wonderful journey continues on gradual winding path to Phakding and towards Lukla after last final climb for an hour, on reaching Lukla check into a nice hotel / lodge with free afternoon to immerse into local Sherpa culture with surrounding mountain views.

Day 21Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

From Lukla take an early morning flight to Kathmandu with fantastic panorama of mountains during 35 minutes flights, on reaching Kathmandu domestic airport and then transfer with a drive back to your hotel around Thamel area, with free afternoon for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.

Day 22In Kathmandu free day for individual activities

We reserve this day as contingency or spare day in case of flight delay and cancellation in Lukla due to bad and unfavorable weather, which can occur sometimes as Himalayan weather are unpredictable, if all goes well according to our itinerary days one can have a leisure day or book for another sightseeing tour of Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur.

Day 23International Departure homeward bound or respective countries

Your last final day in Nepal the country of Himalayan wonders, as per your flight time depart from the hotel, where our guides and staff transfer you for International departure homeward bound or to respective countries.
