Island Peak Climb with other local name as Imjatse Himal as listed with NMA
(Nepal Mountaineering Association), one of the most striking and famous trekking peaks in all Himalaya region.

Island Peak Climb takes you on top at above 6, 160 m and 20,328 ft high with spectacular panorama of surrounding giant mountains with towering Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam and series of peaks including Mt. Makalu towards east direction.

Island Peak a climb with much possible successful ascent to its summit that is why Island Peak has become a favorite among adventurer and trekkers as well for beginners mountaineers.

Island Peak Climb the grade used comes from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems popularly accepted by mountaineers and climbers throughout the world for day or more alpine style climb.

The climb grade as PD + ‘Per Difficule’ with plus, a straight-forward climb facing some tough technical section to negotiate where route leads through ice-glaciers and rocky moraines with deep snow to reach the summit of Island Peak or Imjatse Himal.

Adventure starts from busy and active town at Lukla after reaching taking a swift flight from Kathmandu, where walk follows raging Dudh Kosi River within gorge and scenic valley passing nice traditional Sherpa farm villages and into green woodland of pines and rhododendron trees.

Walk gets strenuous as climb leads you to famed Namche Bazaar with rest day to acclimatize and as well to explore around its view points for best views of Everest and other adjoining mountains and getting the taste of local Sherpa culture.

Journey continues towards beautiful spot at Thyangboche and its impressive monastery surrounded with nice lovely forest with mountains views that encircled this wonderful spot.

Slowly adventure heads towards barren and arid country on leaving the green vegetation to reach first at Everest base camp before the climb of Island Peak, as walk allows enough exercise and to get familiar with high terrain.

At Everest base camp enjoy views of Khumbu Ice-falls and glaciers then climb on top Kalapathar for best close views of Everest and Pumori at located high above 5,545 m, from here heading towards our actual destination at Island Peak base camp.

Walk leads through scenic Imjatse valley past Dingboche and Chukung settlement to reach at Island Peak base, where overnight in tented camps for few nights till the climb is done.

At base camp with much practice and preparation and the conquer the summit of striking Island Peak at above 6, 160 m high facing wonderful views of surrounding mountains and feeling on top of the world.

After a great strenuous and exciting climb on top Island peak descend leads you to beautiful Imjatse valley for return journey back to Lukla past Dingboche-Pangboche and Thyangboche to reach at Namche Bazaar.

From Namche heading further down with gradual and short ups to reach at Lukla for last final overnight around Khumbu and Everest, where short scenic flight bring you at Kathmandu, after a memorable experience and great adventure on Island Peak Climb.

Best Seasons

March to May with Mid September to mid December months best months for trek and climb of Island Peak, when most of the days crystal clear for views, but cold in the morning and night time as well in shades with chances of snow sometimes during autumn and winter seasons.

Where March to May will be lively when wild flowers are in full bloom with sunny days with cloudy late afternoon sometimes.

October to November with December months where autumn and winter months are clear with fine day for views and walks, however will be much cold in the morning and night time as well in shade, not including wind chill factor, chances of snow on route walks above 2,800 m higher.


Day 1Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Life and Journey staff / guide greets you with warm welcome and then transfer into heart of Kathmandu city to your respective hotels.

With time to get refreshed join in for group briefing regarding treks with other useful information as well with do’s and don’ts, includes welcome group dinner in nice authentic restaurants with cultural program.

Day 2In Kathmandu options for sightseeing tour and trek preparation

Free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities as well for options for sightseeing tour around the city places of Interest, as Kathmandu and its close other cities steeped with World Heritage Sites, afternoon preparation for Island Peak Climb and trek.

Day 3Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and trek to Phakding 3,025 m - 04 hrs.

Morning depart from the hotel to Kathmandu domestic airport for exciting scenic flight of 30 minutes to land at Lukla, a Sherpa town where all treks and adventure starts and ends around Everest and high Khumbu region.
Slowly our pleasant first day walks of the adventure begins heading north past. Nice Sherpa farm villages following Dudh Kosi River to reach at Phakding for overnight stop in nice warm lodge.

Day 4Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs.

Today a long walk to reach at famous Namche Bazaar, morning starts with gradual walk following Dudh Kosi River and crossing few bridges to reach Sagarmatha National Park entrance near Monjo village.
From here walk on river bed and then climb for few hours into forested trail with views of snow capped peaks, as this scenic walk reaches you at exciting Namche Bazaar.

Day 5Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and hike.

Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization, before heading higher area a good place for free day in Namche, spend the day with scenic hike to view points on top Namche facing Mt. Everest-Amadablam and other range of peaks, afternoon explore the streets and shops, Namche holds a colorful and busy Saturday Market once a week.

Day 6Trek to Thyangboche Monastery 3,867 m – 05 hrs.

From Namche walk leads on gradual scenic path with downhill to Imjatse River at Phunge-Tenga for lunch, afternoon uphill climb into rhododendron, pines, fir forest with grand views of snowcapped peaks.
After few hours of climb reaching at Thyangboche Monastery, enjoy marvelous views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kantega, Thamersarkhu, Kwangde with magnificent Amadablam, afternoon with time to visit its interesting monastery and observe monks and priest on prayer.

Day 7 Trek to Pheriche 4,240 m - 05hrs.

From Thyangboche catching super panorama of mountains then head downhill within lush and green woodland to reach a metal bridge over Imjatse River, from here uphill to Pangboche, the last permanent Sherpa farm village before Island Peak and Everest base camp, as our walk leads to Somare for lunch with super views of Amadablam at close distance, and then heading on gradual path with short climb to reach at Pheriche windy valley for overnight stop.

Day 8Rest day at Pheriche for acclimatization and excursion.

At Pheriche located above 4,240 m within beautiful valley views of Amadablam including Lhotse and stunning Taboche and Cholatse peaks, Pheriche with many good fine lodges here you can visit HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) office with a small medical post.
A rest day for proper acclimatization here a short hike up to Nakarjung hills for better views of surrounding peaks with Mt. Makalu towards east adjoining.
The high scenic hill above Imjatse valley offers super views of Island Peak, Lhotse Shar, Lhotse, Nuptse and Amadablam.

Day 9Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m - 05 hrs.

On leaving Pheriche walking on the valley end, and then with short climb to a ridge to reach at Thugla (Dugla), here trail from Pheriche valley and Dingboche joins towards Everest Base Camp.
From Thugla stunning views of Taboche, Cholatse, Lobuche, Pumori, Amadablam, after a lunch break and rest climb leads up to terminal debris of Khumbu Glacier coming a across many memorials of unfortunate climbers died on mountain of Khumbu, from here continue walk to Lobuche for overnight stop.

Day 10Trek to Everest Base Camp 5364 m and at Gorakshep 5,180 m.

Morning adventure takes you at Everest Base Camp walking with short steep climb in between glacier and moraine, then reaching at Gorakshep, beneath lofty peak of Pumori and Kalapathar rocky hill.
Walk continues towards Everest base camp, at base camp enjoy views of massive Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers, after an exciting time with experience of a lifetime retrace the journey back to Gorakshep for overnight stop.

Day 11Hike to Kalapathar 5,545 m trek to Chhukung 4,730 m - 05 hrs.

Early morning climb on top Kalapathar at above 5,545 m, highest point on trekking with magnificent views of mountains includes Mt. Everest at close distance, after a great time on top descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue walk to Thugla, from here downhill to Imjatse valley with nice scenic walk towards the last human settlement at Chukung in the comfort of nice lodge.

Day 12Trek to Island Peak Base Camp 4,970m - 04 hrs.

After Chhukung, from here onward in tents camping for few nights till climb is over, morning walk leads to our main highlight and goal to Island Peak base camp located in a scenic spot at Parshya Gab, here setting our camps with afternoon free to practice climbing with our expert guide.

Day 13Trek Island Peak High / Advance Camp 5,400 m - 04 hrs.

Great thrill and adventure begins after setting a high and advance camp above 5,400 m high, to make the climb much easier and possible; leaving the base camp towards high camp climb above moraine towards an open gully, located between two well defined ridges to reach at high camp beneath a small hanging glacier above 5,400 m high.
Here with time in the afternoon for final preparations for the big climb next early morning.

Day 14Climb Island Peak 6,160 m high and return to base camp - 08 hrs.

Climb starts early morning before dawn heading to the summit of Island peak at above 6,160 m / 20,328 ft high, where the grade of the climb is PD + as per French and Swiss Alpine Climbing System, as our guide leads you across snow-covered glacier, avoiding serac and crevasses climb northwards over snow covered scree in the margin between a glaciers facing a top ridge.
Climb continues crossing a gully with some stone with icefall danger, a steep snow and ice ramp leads you above 100 meters high (300 ft) to reach its main summit, as strenuous climb takes you on top our final and major highlight of the adventure.
Enjoy views facing panorama of Mt. Everest 8,848 m, Lhotse 8,501 m, Mt. Amadablam 6,856 m, Mt. Makalu 8, 463 m, Chamlang and Baruntse peaks, after a great climb feeling in high spirit descend safely on the same route back to base camp.

Day 15Spare and contingency day in case of bad weather condition.

Reserve as extra day for the climb, looking at the nature of Himalayan weather pattern where bad weather sometimes obstructs our schedule itinerary days.
To be safe with contingency or reserve day to accommodate the safe climb if weather is a problem. Where with extra day will help and support to achieve successful climb on top Island Peak.
If all goes well this spare day to be used with easy walk on route to Lukla with more leisure day in between making the day walks a little shorter.

Day 16Trek to Pangboche 3,900 m - 05 hrs.

All climbing member should be at base camp on this day to clean up the garbage to hand over designated SPPC personal (Sagarmatha Pollution Project Control) as well packing gears for Yaks to carry onward to Lukla.
After getting organized our return route leads towards Imjatse valley with scenic views as walk proceeds towards Chhukung to reach at Dingboche for lunch break, and then carry on trekking downhill to Pangboche village for overnight halt.

Day 17Trek to Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs.

From Pangboche retrace the journey with ups to Thyangboche and downhill with an hour up and then on good winding path to Namche Bazaar for overnight stop before Lukla.

Day 18Trek to Lukla - 06 hrs

Today a long walk to reach our last stop in Khumbu area at Lukla, from Namche on downhill to a river with short climb to Monjo and then on good trail to Phakding village, where few hours walks from here reaches you at Lukla for last overnight stop within Everest and Khumbu area.

Day 19Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

From Lukla take an early morning flight to Kathmandu with fantastic panorama of mountains during 35 minutes flights, on reaching Kathmandu domestic airport and then transfer with a drive back to your hotel around Thamel area, with free afternoon for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.

Day 20In Kathmandu free day for individual activities.

We reserve this day as contingency or spare day in case of flight delay and cancellation in Lukla due to bad and unfavorable weather, which can occur sometimes as Himalayan weather are unpredictable, if all goes well according to our itinerary days one can have a leisure day or book for another sightseeing tour of Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur.

Day 21International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.

Last final day in Nepal the country of Himalayan wonders, as per your flight time depart from the hotel, where our guides and staff transfer you for International departure homeward bound or to respective countries.
